Crown Range Retreat: Brass & Stone in Perfect Balance

A raw and unapologetic alpine landscape shapes this hillside home by Wānaka-based Assembly Architects. Local schist and concrete foundation walls anchor the dwelling into the slope, extending into defined terraces that embrace the rugged surroundings.

Rammed earth walls and expansive glazing wrap the structure, capped with a weathered Corten roof. These materials flow seamlessly indoors, creating a richly layered backdrop for the refined interior.

Within this tactile setting, Nightworks’ Petrine range punctuates the space—its symmetrical brass elements offering a striking contrast to the moody palette. Used in both pendant and wall lighting, the collection brings sculptural depth and warm illumination to the home.

A winner of the Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects Southern Award 2022 in the Housing category.
